"I almost gave up something I loved because my hair felt too fragile."

BUNLUV was born during my maternity leave, at a time when I began noticing changes in my hair.

I have always loved swimming, but over time I started to feel like the combination of chlorine, postpartum changes, and tight elastic hair ties were not kind to it. I invested in haircare products but my efforts often felt undone by the very thing holding my hair together.

Then, slowly, I found myself doing something I never expected.

I suddenly stopped swimming.

I almost gave up something I loved because my hair felt too fragile.

It was breaking around the midpoint, and I was so upset. That experience led me to rethink the structure of my hair tie.

"A design that brought together structure and softness"

One evening, after my children had gone to sleep, I dusted off my old sewing machine and began experimenting.

I wanted to create something that felt softer to wear. Something that worked like a hair tie, but felt less rigid. A design that brought together structure and softness.

That is where the idea for the SmartCore began.

A spiral-inspired inner structure paired with a lycra outer layer, created as an alternative to traditional elastic hair ties for swimming.

At first, I made them only for my children, friends, and family. Then one day, a mum from my daughter’s kindergarten encouraged me to turn it into something more, and BUNLUV began.

BUNLUV is about small, thoughtful choices that support you through your day and night.

We believe life comes first, and what you wear in your hair should move with you, whether you are swimming again, resting, exercising, chasing little ones, or simply going about your day.

Today, BUNLUV is proudly Australian founded, designed on the Gold Coast, and created with longevity in mind.

Because we believe the things we wear every day should feel effortless, considered, and quietly supportive, never a compromise.

Why we chose a spiral instead of elastic for our scrunchies
